Is injected Vitamin B-12 more effective than the pills?

Actually yes, but that doesn't mean a good multivitamin and mineral formula can't get you what you need. Shots are only recommended by a physician based on a deficiency caused by diet and/or mal-absorption. Vitamin B12 is unique in that it requires a carrier, called intrinsic factor [IF] (produced in the stomach), to allow its absorption throughout the intestines. As we age, the production of IF tends to decrease thus a possible need for injections, since injections go straight into the body, by-passing the need for absorption. Thus injections when/if necessary can achieve proper levels of B12 levels.
